The Founder and President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed his disappointment and sadness at the deplorable state of Ghana’s rivers after eight years of the President Nana Akufo-Addo-led government.
According to him, the government has failed to address the issue of illegal mining, despite President Akufo-Addo’s promise to put his presidency on the line if he fails to deal with the problem.
“The president promised to put his presidency on the line if he failed to deal with illegal mining. He failed,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Mr. Cudjoe also criticized the government’s lack of urgency in addressing the issue, stressing the need to eradicate the menace.
“Death and decay do not wait for politicians to take office. Act now!”
He further expressed his frustration at the fact that while small-scale illegal miners are being prosecuted, the larger ones are being allowed to continue their destructive activities with “tacit official support”.
Franklin Cudjoe also slammed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s statement that he plans to deal with the issue only if he becomes president.
“This should not wait to be dealt with after elections,” Mr. Cudjoe stated.
