Akufo-Addo mourns Namibia’s founding President Sam Nujoma

Former Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed profound sadness at the death of Namibia’s first president, Dr. Sam Nujoma, who passed away in Windhoek at the age of 95.

Akufo-Addo called Nujoma a hero of African independence whose legacy would inspire generations to come in a tribute posted on X (previously Twitter).

“I am deeply saddened by the death of H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and one of the heroes of African liberation.“

He commended Nujoma’s achievements to the creation of a safe, affluent, and democratic country as well as his crucial role in Namibia’s struggle for independence from South Africa.

“The late First President of Namibia’s life will continue to be celebrated for his heroic leadership, not only in the fight for independence from colonial rule but also in laying the foundation for a strong nation.“

Akufo-Addo offered his condolences to the Namibian people, President Nangolo Mbumba, Nujoma’s widow, children, and the SWAPO party leadership.
