Prior to the 8th Parliament’s dissolution, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025.
According to Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, the President uses this speech to provide his final assessment on the state of the country before leaving office.
The official dissolution of the 4th Republic’s 8th Parliament is scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025. The 9th Parliament will meet at 11:00 PM on the same day in order to choose a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.
The Speaker-elect and the newly elected Members of Parliament will take their oaths at midnight, signaling the start of the next parliamentary term, according to a statement released by the Parliamentary Service.
Parliament has called on media representatives to secure accreditation ahead of time in order to enable thorough coverage of these events.
