Akufo-Addo’s personal bodyguard collapses in parliament

One of the President’s personal bodyguards, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, fell while standing guard in Parliament during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025.

President Akufo-Addo’s speech, which emphasized the government’s accomplishments and national aspirations, was just before the collapse took place.

Having been a loyal member of the President’s security detail for many years, Col. Amponsah abruptly lost his balance and fell without warning.

Because the collapse was so abrupt, Parliament’s medical team responded right away and hurried to the scene to help.

After obtaining initial first aid, Col. Amponsah was subsequently sent to a nearby facility for more medical consultation.

The President, who was clearly troubled by the situation, took a moment out of his speech to make sure Col. Amponsah got the care he needed.

Even though the event temporarily halted the State of the Nation Address, it went on without any more interruptions. President Akufo-Addo’s farewell speech to Parliament before his term ends, which highlights Ghana’s achievements under his leadership and the nation’s future course, makes the event noteworthy.

In the next few hours, more information regarding Col. Amponsah’s condition would be available.
