Annoh-Dompreh wins Nsawam Adoagyiri seat after recount

Frank Annoh-Dompreh has been able to hold onto his position in the Nsawam Adoagyiri parliament after the election results were recounted.

The candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) received 29,640 votes, barely defeating Amenorpe Philbert Fummey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who got 29,433 votes.

The recount comes after the Electoral Commission (EC) was ordered by the High Court on December 20 to recollect and proclaim the results for the Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ablekuma North seats, voiding previous pronouncements.

A court review started by six disgruntled NPP parliamentary candidates who requested a mandamus order for the EC to recollect the election results served as the impetus for this instruction.

The candidates expressed concerns about anomalies in the first collation process and the subsequent announcement of winners. They ran in Tema Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, Ablekuma North, and Ahafo Ano North, among other seats.

Additionally, they asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure a smooth procedure by providing sufficient protection at the collation centers.
