Appointments Committee apologises to Ghanaians over violent clash during vetting

Ghanaians have received a formal apology from the Appointments Committee for the chaotic events that transpired during Thursday night’s vetting session.

Members of the Minority and Majority Caucuses clashed during the session, which was intended to screen nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

When the Minority suggested moving the vetting to Friday due to concerns about the day’s activities, tensions increased. The majority members, however, disagreed with this recommendation and insisted that the vetting proceed as planned. As the dispute got out of hand, minority members broke microphones and tables to try to avoid any possible delays.

The majority remained steadfast in the face of the confusion, claiming that the vetting should continue uninterrupted and that the committee was operating according to its predetermined agenda. As tensions increased, the situation led to an increased security presence in the conference room.

The Appointments Committee apologized for the inconvenience and said they were sorry for the incident. They gave the public the assurance that steps would be taken to keep similar incidents from happening again and to maintain the vetting procedure’s decorum and order.

The committee has urged all members to cooperate in order to preserve the integrity of parliamentary proceedings, and their apology demonstrates their dedication to upholding accountability and transparency in the vetting process.
