Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten run halted by Legon Cities in thrilling 2-1 upset

Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten streak came to an end when they lost 2-1 to struggling Legon Cities at the Legon Sports Stadium in the outstanding Gameweek six Premier League fixture.

Legon Cities, who came into the game without a win in their opening 7 games took the lead in the 23rd minute with a beautifully curled low shot from Albert Yeboah that passed Frederick Asare.

The Porcupine Warriors went into halftime trailing by a goal, having difficulty gaining momentum during the first half. At the beginning of the second half, Prosper Narteh Ogum made several substitutions, bringing on Kyei Baffour, Lord Amoah, and Patrick Asiedu for Justice Blay, Peter Amidu Acquah, and Samuel Tenadu.

These changes improved the team’s performance as they struck the post, had a goal disallowed for offside, and saw two penalty appeals turned down.

Their fortunes changed in the 74th minute when they were awarded a penalty for handball, with Albert Amoah converting it to level the score at 1-1, setting up an exciting finish.

However, against the run of play, Legon Cities stunned the stadium in the 91st minute when substitute Abdul Rahim Yaya outmaneuvered the defenders to tap the ball into the net. This goal secured the victory for Legon Cities, marking their first win of the season and handing Kotoko their first defeat.

The results sees Legon Cities move out of the bottom of the table to 17th place with 5 points, while Asante Kotoko remain in second place with 15 points.
