Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police, has made a plea to the public to stand behind the police as they take action against those who spread false information.
He stated that all parties involved must work together to combat the new canker.
At an event hosted by the Ghana Report, the IGP stated that it is imperative to address misinformation and disinformation head-on since they represent a serious threat to the state’s security and unity.
“Disinformation and misinformation are national security threats and we should see them in that perspective. We should walk out of these place changed as people seeking to make a difference from these challenges that threaten the security of our nation”.
He said it is disturbing when members of the public who demand that the issue be handled wind up opposing law enforcement when those authorities move to stop offenses.
“What do we want us as people? Do we want to be on the side of right or wrong, we have to make a decision. We need everybody to be part of the solution in the fight against disinformation and misinformation.
“When people make such disinformation or misinformation and you take action against them you have some people attacking the people who are fighting it”.
“We have become so inhumane to each other such that our happiness is derived from the pain of others. We are so happy when someone is in a bad situation and we must yearn to change from that.
