The flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged that if he wins the upcoming presidential election in December, he will expedite passport applications by substituting a Ghana Card-based system for the current form process.
During his campaign tour in the Oti Region, Dr. Bawumia gave a speech outlining his plan to completely do away with the need for passport forms.
His proposed system would only require Ghana Card holders to use their Ghana Card number for processing and verification when paying the passport fee via mobile money.
“So from next year if you have a Ghana card and you want a passport you don’t need to fill a form anymore,” Dr. Bawumia explained.
Presently, obtaining a passport necessitates completing lengthy forms that include background and personal data.
