The five chiefs from Mankrong Nkwanta in the Agona East Constituency of the Central Region who displaced a billboard displaying the NPP parliamentary and presidential candidates, Hannah Asamoah and Mahamudu Bawumia respectively have restored it to its original state after an order by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court.
The chiefs, Nana Abbey, Nana Inkoom, Kojo Simpa, Kojo Bereku, Kobina Donkor, and Nana Arthur on the eve of Sunday, July 14, 2024, displaced a campaign billboard of the New Patriotic Party mounted at Mankrong Nkwanta in the Agona East Constituency of the Central Region.
The traditional leaders cited deceit, as they claimed the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Hannah Asamoah, only asked for a place to hang her banner but later mounted a giant billboard which they claimed could obstruct an intended construction of a community durbar grounds and therefore displaced the billboard which displayed the PC’s image and that of the presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia.
They were subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court on Monday, July 15, 2024 where they were remanded into police custody for three days.
The chiefs who appeared before the same court on Friday, July 19, were granted a bail of GHC10,000 and three sureties each and also ordered to restore the billboard to its original position.
The chiefs on Monday, July 22, 2024, carried out the court’s directive and reinstated the billboard with support from incumbent NDC MP Pokua Sawyer.
The NPP parliamentary candidate who feels relieved following a counter proclamation by superior traditional authorities to those at Mankrong Nkwanta who had earlier announced that she was barred from embarking on any activity in the township told Metro News that she had intention to further drag matters and is convinced that her billboards will be safe.
She disclosed to Metro News her intentions to run a clean and incident free campaign and therefore called on her followers to remain focus on the main goal.
