The former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has defended the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, over comments that the ruling NPP government will never hand over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Nana Obiri Boahen claims that Mr. Acheampong made no mistakes in his remarks and was merely addressing earlier remarks made by certain NDC party officials and former President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Acheampong addressing party supporters at Nsawam,he said the ruling New Patriotic Party will never hand over power to the opposition NDC in 2025.
“I have said that whether the NDC likes it not, they will never win the 2024 elections. They would not win. You can check their records. They would not win. The NPP would win the elections. The NPP exists to win elections.
“So, we would do whatever it takes to win the elections. We are a political party that has pastors, imams, and traditionalists so whatever means we would take to win the elections, we would do so. ‘Burn the sea if you don’t understand, we’ll win and continue with our good works”, he noted.
The Minority and the NDC have denounced the remarks made by the Abetifi MP, and the opposition party is demanding that the MP be taken into custody and prosecuted.
However, Nana Obiri Boahen stated in an interview with Accra-based Original FM 91.9, he said thatthat the attack on Mr. Acheampong was unjustified and that the NDC was merely trying to draw attention from Ghanaians.
“It could be motivating their footsoldiers because of their large crowd which the other party never expected the NPP, their campaign rally, would have such a crowd, ”he stated.
