Building collapses on firefighters at Westlands

Some firefighters are battling for their lives following, the last floor of a two-storey building collapsing on them as they battled a fierce fire.

The tragic event happened in West Legon, a suburb of the nation’s capital, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in the afternoon.

This sad and dangerous incident resulted in the injuries of four firefighters who were initial responders from the Legon Fire Station.

The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Legon is now treating two of the officers who are in serious condition.

After receiving treatment, the two other officers who had minor injuries were released from custody.

The Service Administration visited the injured policemen at the UGMC, Legon, earlier this morning, according to a statement from Chief Fire Officer Timothy Osafo-Affum, expressing sympathy and concern.
