Chinese serving jail term for theft escapes from Nsawam Prison

A Chinese national imprisoned at Nsawam Medium Prison has succeeded in escaping away.

The prisoner, who had been found guilty of stealing and other crimes, allegedly pretended to be ill in order to be moved to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The Chinese prisoner was reportedly first taken into custody in Tema and then sent to the highly secure Nsawam Prison. But on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, while he was a patient at the hospital, he made his bold escape. How he was able to leave the hospital grounds without being noticed is still a mystery.

The suspect is determined to be brought back into custody by the Ghana Prison Service, which views the breakout as a major security breach.

The Ghana Prisons Service’s public relations officer, Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, has reassured the public that their team is working nonstop to find and capture the escapee.

“We have gotten a lot of leads that are proving to be successful in what we are doing,” stated Mr. Adamu.
However, he emphasized that the investigation is currently ongoing and the authorities are doing everything in their power to rectify this security breach.
