The appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry has prompted a nationwide strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).
This decision was made by the CLOGSAG National Executive Council (NEC) following a meeting held on February 11, 2025, to discuss issues regarding the appointment of politically exposed individuals to the Civil Service and Local Governments.
According to the Council, Botchway, who has political exposure, took over as the Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry on February 12, 2025. As a result, CLOGSAG has chosen to launch a nationwide strike that will begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo said in a press release on February 13 “The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike.
“Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The Association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025.”
