Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye has been spotted in the campaign team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Kofi Boakye joined former President John Dramani Mahama and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah for the NDC 24-hour Economy Sensitization Walk on Wednesday in Kumasi.
In the next polls scheduled for December 2024, there is growing speculation that Boakye may be selected as the running mate for NDC presidential candidate John Mahama.
There is growing confidence that Mahama will surprise party members and the country at large by choosing Kofi Boakye, according to sources within the NDC, who claim that talks and selection processes are now underway.
It’s no secret that Boakye and Mahama have a tight friendship, and his connections to the Ashanti Region, where he has a strong relationship with the Manyhia Palace, have fuelled more rumors. According to some sources, Mahama will be more likely to secure the backing of Manhyia Palace, which has significant influence, if Boakye is chosen as his running mate in 2024.
But, Boakye will have fierce competition from other contenders for Mahama’s running mate position.
The front-runners are Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, Mahama’s former running mate, and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.
