Eastern Region to host the 67th National Independence Day celebration

The 67th National Independence Day Celebration will be held in the Eastern Region. The venue will be the 5000-capacity Youth Resource Centre at Adweso, Koforidua.

The Director of Operations at the Office of the President, who also doubles as the Chairman for National Celebrations, Lord Commey, led a delegation from the Office of the President to announce this to members of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday, 18th January 2024.

He said the decision was taken by His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to market the rich, unique, and vast cultural and tourism potentials in the Eastern region to the rest of the country and the world at large and also to boost local economic development.

He appealed to the traditional authorities to support the celebration and make it grand as it is a “homecoming” for His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sackitey II thanked the H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for choosing the region for the celebration and gave the assurance the House would give their full support and make it an enviable event in the history of Ghana

The delegation afterward went to inspect the venue. They were led by the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, and some officials of the Eastern Regional Co-Ordinating Council (ERCC).

Subsequently, the team joined the Regional Planning Committee at the Conference Hall of the ERCC to highlight their observations and expectations ahead of the celebration. Among these, was the formation of sub-committees at the local level to facilitate the planning and organization of the Independence Day celebration.

Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong expressed his appreciation to His Excellency the President and the National Planning Committee for selecting the Eastern Region to host this momentous event. He assured them of his readiness to host the good people of Ghana and the international community through various activities line-up to mark the President’s “Homecoming” come Wednesday 6th of March 2024.
The 67th Independence Day celebration will be officially launched on Friday 2nd February 2024 at a venue yet to be announced.
