EC begins replacement of voter ID cards today

The Electoral Commission (EC) will start accepting applications for proxy voting, transferring votes, and replacing voter ID cards that have been misplaced or destroyed as of this Thursday, May 30, 2024.

The deadline for transfers and proxy applications is June 14, 2024. As per CI 91, individuals who have just registered are not permitted to transfer their votes or submit a proxy application.

This information was included in a statement released by the Electoral Commission, which also stated that Voter ID card replacement would begin on Thursday, May 30, and run through Friday, June 14, 2024.

‘’This replacement service is intended for individuals who have lost their Voter ID Cards for the upcoming December 7, general elections’’.

The EC also advised all voters who wanted to replace their lost voter ID cards to use the shortcode 2221067# to pay for the replacement. A portion of the message said, “The cost for replacement is GH¢10 only.”

The Commission additionally directed applicants to give the District Officer the reference code they obtained upon payment in order to expedite the replacement of their cards.
