EC declares readiness for December 7 elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced its preparedness for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

According to Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, the EC has achieved critical milestones ahead of schedule.

“I wouldn’t only say we are ready, we are fully ready with 18 days to go,” he told JoyNews.

He explained that several critical tasks have been completed, including the printing and distribution of ballot papers, which are now in regional capitals under police care.

Also, the training of officials has commenced, with national-level training complete and regional and constituency levels to follow.

Bossman Asare intimated that the EC has made significant progress in distributing ballots, with nearly 90% of the work complete and 80% of parliamentary and presidential ballot papers already in regions.

However, minor challenges were encountered in Ahafo and Volta regions due to ballot serial number issues, which are being addressed.

Dr. Bossman Asare reaffirmed the Electoral Commission’s pledge to conduct a hitch-free election, underscoring their dedication to transparency and fairness.

“We have a clear plan in place, and based on that, I can conveniently say that we are fully ready.”
