EC disqualifies GFP’s presidential nominee over nomination form errors

Electoral Commission Chair Jean Mensa has announced the disqualification of Ghana Freedom Party’s presidential nominee, Philip Appiah Kubi, also known as Roman Fada, due to errors and irregularities detected in his nomination forms.

This decision was made at an emergency IPAC meeting on Tuesday, November 12 in Accra.

Roman Fada was chosen by the Ghana Freedom Party after the passing of Akua Donkor, the party’s original presidential candidate, who died on October 28, 2024.

Meanwhile, despite this disqualification, the Electoral Commission will proceed with printing ballot papers, and candidate positions will remain unchanged.

The Ghana Freedom Party has experienced a tumultuous election season, with Akua Donkor initially selected to run before her untimely passing.

Roman Fada’s nomination was submitted on November 5, 2024, following the Electoral Commission’s directive to select a replacement candidate within 10 days. Unfortunately, his nomination forms contained errors and irregularities that led to his disqualification.
