A chartered accountant and former Deputy Minister of Communications, Edward Ato Sarpong, has been nominated by ADB’s majority shareholder to serve as the bank’s new Managing Director.
Metro TV understands that the ADB Board has approved Mr. Sarpong’s nomination, which is subject to approval by other regulators such as the Bank of Ghana, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Ghana Stock Exchange.
At the durbar, Mr. Sarpong has already been introduced to the staff.
Alhassan Yakubu Tali, who announced his resignation with effect from February 5, 2025, is replaced by him.
Mr. Tali took over the role on December 1, 2022, after serving as the bank’s Deputy Managing Director since 2017.
On February 6, 2025, the Board of ADB released a statement announcing the nomination of a new Managing Director by the bank’s majority shareholder.
On December 20, 2016, the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) successfully listed ADB.

After interviewing Mr. Edward Ato Sarpong last week, the bank’s board approved his nomination. It is anticipated that Mr. Sarpong will formally start work on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Profile of Mr Edward Ato Sarpong
Mr Sarpong served in several business positions over the years including Managing Director of Africaonline, Chief Operating Officer of K-Net from 2009 to 2011. He also served as the Deputy Minister of Communications under John Mahama in 2014.
He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, and an Alumnus of the University of Professional Studies, UPSA.
He also attended the University of Ghana Business School where he obtained an Executive Masters Degree in Entrepreneurship. He is also an alumnus of the Manchester Business School of Leadership Development Programme.
