Election 2024: Bawumia concedes before EC’s official announcement

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has conceded defeat in the 2024 general elections, congratulating former President John Dramani Mahama on his victory.

Delivering a speech to the nation on December 8, 2024, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the provisional results, which indicated a win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate.

“The people of Ghana have spoken… we respect that decision with all humility,” Dr. Bawumia stated, emphasizing his commitment to preserving Ghana’s peace and democratic character.

He added that conceding ahead of the official announcement aimed to reduce tension and uphold Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

Dr. Bawumia expressed pride in his campaign, thanking the NPP for their support, and acknowledged the electoral outcome as part of the democratic process.

He pledged the NPP’s support for a seamless transition and assured Ghanaians of a constructive opposition approach.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia encouraged them to remain hopeful, saying, “We may have lost the battle, but not the war.”

He extended gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his family, campaign team, and supporters.
