Family accuses Ghana National College of negligence over student’s death

The family of Theophilus Ansah, a final year science student of Ghana National College, is demanding justice for his death, which they attribute to negligence by the school authorities.

Theophilus, from Anomabo in the Mfantseman municipality of the Central Region, died on July 3, 2024, after complaining of ill health during the mock exams.

The family alleges that the school authorities failed to attend to him promptly, leading to his death.

According to Ms. Lucy Quainoo, the auntie of the deceased, the family was not informed by the school authorities about Theophilus’ condition, but rather by a student who called the mother to inform her that her son was weak and vomiting.

She said her nephew was sent to the school’s infirmary, but there was no staff available to attend to him.

The family alleges that the school authorities abandoned Theophilus at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, leading to his demise.

John Ansah, the father of the deceased, is calling on the government, education authorities, and Child Right International to help the family seek justice for Theophilus.

Meanwhile, the Regional Director of Education, Mr. Emmanuel Essuman, has condemned the circumstances leading to Theophilus’ death and promised to investigate the matter.
