Five aspirants have picked nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South constituency.
The aspirants are Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, brother of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a legal practitioner, James Owusu Boakye, an Assembly member, Kwabena Addo Amankwah, and Akwasi Coker Gyambibi.
The primary is scheduled for Sunday, July 14, 2024.
The election committee, comprising Evans Nimako, National First Vice Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman, and other officials, has assured aspirants of a peaceful and free and fair election.
The committee outlined the modalities for the picking and submission of nomination forms, vetting, and the primary.
They cautioned aspirants to avoid derogatory comments and conduct a clean campaign.
Some aspirants expressed optimism about their chances, touting their achievements and motivating their decision to contest.
The primary is necessary due to the elevation of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the incumbent MP, as the running mate of the party’s flagbearer.
