Former Electoral Commission Deputy Chairman Amadu Sulley is dead

Former Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission Alhaji Amadu Sulley passed away unexpectedly, according to his relatives.

In the afternoon of March 1, he passed away. Islamic custom dictated that burial rites were performed right away.

The chairman of the family says that today, Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 10:00 am, the late Alhaji Sulley will be laid to rest at the Madina Muslim Cemetery.

“Muslim brothers and sisters, friends, and loved ones are cordially invited to take part in his burial processes at his residence and the Madina Muslim Cemetery,” 3news reported

“Fortunately, Alhaji Amadu Sulley passed away with fasting (1st day of Ramadan).To Allah be the glory May Allah forgive him and grant all our departed souls jannat firdaus,”the statement.

John Evans Atta-Mills, the president at the time, named the late Alhaji Sulley deputy head of the Electoral Commission in 2012. Prior to being promoted to the position of Deputy Chairperson, he was the Director of Research Monitoring and Evaluation at the same Commission.

The first time a career member of the electoral staff was appointed to a high position was when Sulley was named deputy chairperson. Prior to his termination in June 2018, he was the deputy chairman in charge of operations at the Electoral Commission of Ghana. He was accused of unlawfully transferring votes during the 2016 Ghanaian general election.
