Akufo-Addo’s statue in Sekondi destroyed

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which stands at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been entirely vandalised.

The statue was unveiled to honor the former president’s efforts during his administration, and this is the second time it has been damaged.

The first instance of vandalism happened on December 16, 2024, when unidentified persons damaged the statue’s leg. Authorities promptly rebuilt the statue, but no arrests were made in connection with the event, leaving concerns regarding the attackers’ motivations unresolved.

The latest attack occurred less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office as president, and the statue has now been completely demolished.

The statue was created during Akufo-Addo’s presidency to represent his administration’s dedication to improving healthcare and infrastructure in the Western Region.

Its location close to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital acted as a reminder of the former president’s administration’s efforts to increase underprivileged communities’ access to resources and medical care.
