Four-month-old baby perishes in Kissiman Junction slum fire

A baby, four months old, has died in a terrible fire outbreak at a slum near Kissiman Junction, near Achimota-Samodak.

More than 20 wooden homes and their belongings were destroyed by the fire, which started in the early hours of this morning.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly, but the baby was not saved.

While efforts to identify the cause of the fire continue, the baby’s burned remains have been turned over to the police for additional examination.

Divisional Officer Two (DO II) Desmond E. Ackah, the GNFS’s Head of Public Relations, stated that firefighters from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations responded to the distress call at 4:12 a.m. and arrived within 12 minutes.

At 5:02 a.m., he said, the firefighters finally brought the fire under control after quickly containing it and preventing it from spreading to other buildings, including a warehouse.

“Firefighters are currently conducting overhauling operations to completely extinguish any remaining flames,” he added.
