Frimpong Manso has urged Otto Addo to exclude “uncommitted” players from the Black Stars squad

Bibiani Gold Stars head coach, Frimpong Manso, has called on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to drop players who lack commitment to the national team.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Coach Manso stressed the importance of dedication, especially during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. He believes that local players can perform better than the current squad, which he feels lacks the “commitment to die for the nation.”

“With this group (in AFCON QUALIFIERS), we should have easily qualified without any mathematical calculations. Our team lacked the commitment to die for the nation, and Otto Addo should drop all players who are unwilling to play because, given what they are doing, our local players can outperform them,” he said.

The Black Stars are at risk of missing out on AFCON 2025 after their 2-0 loss to Sudan last week, leaving them in 3rd place with just 2 points. They need to win their remaining two matches and hope Sudan loses both to qualify.

According to Frimpong Manso, Ghana should shift their focus from AFCON to World Cup qualification.

“We should forget about AFCON and instead focus on World Cup qualification,” Manso stated during the interview. In the World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars currently sit in second place with 9 points after 5 games, just behind Comoros by 2 goals.
