Fuel price increase: Petrol at GH₵15.74, diesel going for GH₵15.77 a litre

Fuel prices have started to rise somewhat by some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) as the second January pricing window goes into effect.

Prominent OMCs have already changed the rates of petrol and diesel, including state-owned GOIL and Shell.

During the first pricing window, petrol at GOIL cost GH₵14.99 per litre; today, it costs GH₵15.74. Additionally, the price of diesel has increased marginally, from GH₵15.60 to GH₵15.77 per liter.

Shell has done the same, raising the price of petrol from GH₵15.30 to GH₵15.59 per liter and diesel from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.79 per liter.

The weakening of the cedi and the increase in crude oil prices on the international market are the reasons for the upward adjustment.

Some OMCs haven’t updated their prices yet, though. Diesel and petrol are still available at Star Oil for GH₵14.99 and GH₵14.75 per liter, respectively. Similarly, Total Energies has kept its tariffs the same, charging GH₵15.50 for gasoline and GH₵15.99 for diesel.

The modifications underscore the continuous oscillations in the petroleum market, with consumers probably bearing the consequences when industry-wide price adjustments take effect.
