GFA postpones Matchday 20, schedules emergency meetings with clubs and supporters

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to postpone Matchday 20 of the Ghana Premier League following a violent incident and a fatality during the match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

The GFA’s decision aims to provide time to assess the situation, engage with relevant stakeholders, and develop strategies to prevent future violence. This step is part of the GFA’s broader effort to improve the football experience in Ghana.

In response to the incident, the GFA has scheduled an emergency meeting with Premier League clubs for Thursday, February 6, 2025, to discuss crucial issues like security, fan behavior, and emergency protocols.

The GFA is also inviting leadership from supporters’ groups to another meeting on Friday, February 7, 2025, to address the role of fans in ensuring safety and preventing violence in stadiums.

These meetings are designed to create collaboration between the GFA, clubs, and supporters in addressing the root causes of violence and ensuring a safer, more enjoyable football environment in Ghana.

The GFA in its statement declared that it is determined to send a clear message that such incidents will not be tolerated in Ghanaian football.

Meanwhile, Nsoatreman has reportedly written to the Ghana FA to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League amid the recent turmoil.
