The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the Ghana Premier League (GPL) will resume on Friday, March 7.
Following the recent hooliganism attacks, the Ghana FA made an announcement on Wednesday, February 26, after three weeks of inaction.
The league’s return, according to the FA, is “subject to the safety and security assurance inspection of all venues currently being undertaken by the GFA and the Ministry for Sports and Recreation.”
In an effort to prevent more hooligan incidents at different stadiums, the Ghana FA has been educating stakeholders on the Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025 in recent days.
Following the death of fan Francis Nana Pooley Frimpong during their league game in Nsoatre, Asante Kotoko requested better measures from the FA, which resulted in the league being suspended.
The FA has also announced that the fixtures for Matchday 20 have been set for Tuesday, March 18 to Thursday, March 20 as part of the league’s resumption. Matchday 21 will be held at approved venues from Tuesday, April 1 to Thursday, April 3, and Matchday 22 will be held from Tuesday, April 15 to Thursday, April 17, 2025.
