GFA to meet FIFA on Thursday to discuss the introduction of VAR Technology

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced an important meeting with representatives from FIFA to discuss the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Ghana’s domestic leagues.

The meeting, dubbed the VAR kick-off meeting is set for October 31 and November 1, 2024, in Accra, and is a crucial step in FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program.

During the meeting, FIFA and GFA representatives will review all aspects of the VAR project and assess the dependencies required for its successful execution. Following this meeting, FIFA’s approval will signal the official start of VAR implementation in Ghana’s domestic leagues.

The FIFA delegation will arrive in Ghana on October 30, 2024, with key personnel including Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, who will provide expertise on VAR technology and procedures.

The GFA team will be led by General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo (Esq.) and will include several high-ranking officials such as Alex Kotey (Head of Referees and VAR Team Leader), Emmanuel Aglago (VAR Instructor), and others.

FIFA has mandated the participation of the VAR Project Leader, the main Venue Media Officer, and the Referees Instructor in this meeting to ensure all critical stakeholders are well-informed and prepared for the challenges of implementing VAR in domestic competitions.

This initiative to introduce VAR to Ghanaian football reflects a commitment to enhancing the integrity and quality of the game.
