Ghana beat Côte d’Ivoire to secure a place at the 2025 U-20 AFCON

Ghana’s Black Satellites have clinched a spot at the 2025 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the semifinal of the WAFU B Championship in Lome, Togo.

The Black Satellites had a poor start to the game and fell behind after 18 minutes when Loukou Jaures scored for the Ivorians.

Ghana after going down improved their display and equalized just before halftime when an Ivorian player inadvertently headed the ball into his own net from a corner kick.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Ghana was awarded a penalty after Hayford Adu Boahene was fouled by the goalkeeper. Jerry Afriyie confidently converted the penalty, putting Ghana ahead.

The remaining minutes saw no further goals as Ghana secured a 2-1 victory, earning a place in the final of the WAFU B Championship and the 2025 AFCON.

Ghana will meet the winner of the second semifinal between Nigeria and Niger in the WAFU B Championship final.
