Ghana fall to Nigeria in WAFU B U-20 Championship final

Ghana’s Black Satellites suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the final of the WAFU B U20 Championship at the Stade de Kegue in Lome.

Nigeria had a flying start to the game and went into the break 2-0 up, with Kparabo Arier scoring both goals.

In the 75th minute, Jerry Afriyie scored with a header, reducing the deficit and creating a tense finish. However, Nigeria managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory, successfully defending the title they won two years ago.

Afriyie’s goal brought his total in the competition to 5, earning him both the Golden Boot award and the Most Valuable Player award.

Despite the loss, the Black Satellites have qualified alongside Nigeria for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

This tournament will also serve as the African qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, with the four semi-finalists qualifying automatically.
