Fifty health practitioners across the country have undergone training to respond to public health emergencies, courtesy of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The training, under the Health Corps initiative, aims to ensure African countries are prepared to respond to health emergencies and humanitarian crises within 24 to 48 hours.
Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director in charge of Public Health, emphasized the importance of having trained professionals ready to respond to emergencies before they happen.
Dr. Argata Guracha Guyo, Country Emergency Preparedness/IHR Officer, stressed the need to build and maintain robust national, regional, and global capacities to keep the world safe from epidemics and other health emergencies.
Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their skills in emergency response.
The training is part of WHO’s efforts to support countries in their preparedness for health emergencies and ensure swift responses to crisis situations.
