Ghana Immigration seizes smuggled cocoa beans hidden in 1,115 gallons

A truck carrying illegal cocoa beans was stopped by Ghana Immigration Service agents at the Akanu Sector Command, assisted by some Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division officers.

Based on intelligence, the officers stopped the truck driven by Ibrahim Fatawu, registered AS 2103-W.

The vehicle at the Ave-Havi border crossing had 1115 liters of cocoa beans that were intended to be smuggled into Togo.

This was stated in a press release that was copied to Ghana Metro TV in Accra on Sunday and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration in charge of Public Relations, Michael Amoako-Atta.

It stated that the truck had been seized and the driver was cooperating with additional inquiries, while the 1115 gallons of cocoa beans had been turned over to COCOBOD officials.

“The Ghana Immigration Service is hereby issuing a caution to all would-be smugglers to desist from such activity since it negatively affects Ghana’s economy and also loss of revenue to the Government,” it added.

The border community’s cooperation and assistance in securing Ghana’s borders were praised by the Service.
