The government of Ghana has announced a new policy that will allow travelers from other African countries to enter the country without a visa.
The policy is part of Ghana’s commitment to the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), which aims to boost trade and investment across the continent.
President Nana Akufo-Addo announced the African Prosperity Dialogues, a forum where experts and leaders discussed how to achieve economic integration in Africa.
He said that visa-free entry would facilitate the movement of people and goods, and enhance Ghana’s role as a gateway to West Africa.
According to the 2023 Africa Visa Openness Index by the African Development Bank, only four African countries – Rwanda, Benin, The Gambia, and Seychelles – have removed all visa requirements for African travelers. Ghana is set to join them as the fifth country to adopt this policy.
President Akufo-Addo also called on all stakeholders, including traders and artisans, to support the implementation of the AFCFTA, which he said would create opportunities and prosperity for all Africans.
