The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) continues to take significant strides towards promoting grassroots sports development in Ghana.
The Corporation handed over a newly completed Standard ultra-modern AstroTurf to the Esikafoe-Amantem No. 2 community in Takoradi, Western Region. The handover ceremony, which took place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, reflects GNPC’s commitment to developing sports and community infrastructure across Ghana.
The Astro Turf, equipped with a perimeter fence and four floodlights, ensures year-round usability and provides a safe and modern space for sporting activities. This project underscores GNPC’s dedication to fostering a vibrant sporting culture in Ghana and nurturing future generations of athletes.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, highlighted the significant role that football plays in promoting individual health and well-being. He emphasized the potential of the new AstroTurf to identify and nurture young football talent, noting the Western Region’s rich history of producing dazzling players.
Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency and Western Regional Minister, expressed immense gratitude to GNPC for its valuable contribution to the community.
He pledged to ensure the facility’s proper usage and preservation for future generations. He urged the youth to utilize the AstroTurf responsibly, maintaining a peaceful and enjoyable environment.
This handover marks a significant investment in the community’s well-being and sporting potential, reflecting GNPC’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development.
