Government pays GH¢50million to WAEC for BECE and WASSCE examinations

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has received GH¢50 million from the government to help with the administration of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Education (MoE) stated that the payment confirms the government’s will to meet its financial responsibilities to WAEC and guarantee the uninterrupted operation of the Council.

“We wish to reassure all stakeholders, especially students, parents, guardians, and the general public, of our dedication to sustaining an environment that fosters seamless, efficient, and high-quality education for all Ghanaian students,” it added.

The government gave WAEC GH¢47 million in June of this year to hold the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

At first, WAEC had only been granted GH₵2.3 million out of the total debt of GH₵95.83 million. In order to carry out the investigation and to analyze and disseminate the findings, the council had to ask for a minimum of 50% of the entire budget.
