For Ghanaian pilgrims traveling to Mecca, the government has arranged a pre-financing arrangement with a local bank to cover major Hajj expenses, making the payment process easier.
This was declared by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the ceremony to cut the sod for a permanent Hajj Village in Accra.

He said the government has set March 13 as the final payment deadline to avoid last-minute payments, which frequently cause travel plans to be disrupted.
Additionally, Mr. Mahama disclosed that the government had paid off unpaid debts from earlier Hajj operations, averting financial setbacks that had previously interrupted pilgrimages.
“This year, we do not want a situation where people make late payments and expect to be airlifted. We have set up a task force to manage Hajj operations effectively,” he said.
He reassured Muslims in Ghana that his government is working to improve the dignity and organization of the pilgrimage experience, and that steps are being taken to lessen the financial strain on pilgrims.
