The government has started building 1,000 dwelling units for those affected by the Akosombo Dam leak, according to Minister of Works and Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to lessening the pain of the impacted communities during remarks at a press conference on Monday, September 30, 2024, in Accra.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also disclosed that the housing project’s second phase, which calls for the construction of 1,010 more units, had been approved.
The government has obtained the commencement certificate for this phase and is currently finalizing the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) permissions that are required, as well as obtaining land for the project.
“Now already, 115 housing units are under construction and they have gone past the 60 per cent mark. These are the units I broke ground for in April 2024. We have also approved phase two of 1,010 units and have received the commencement certificate for this phase,” the minister stated.
