The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana has elected Maradona Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as Guru, as its new president.
On Wednesday, September 19, 9455 votes were cast, and Guru was declared the winner of the poll. Before the polls, he was embroiled in an allegation over his candidacy.
After being disqualified from the presidential contest, Guru filed a petition against the Student Representative Council (SRC) Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana.
Guru and Jeffery Adu Yeboah, his running mate, were disqualified after it was determined after vetting that they did not reside in any hall.
His legal team responded by requesting a review of the ruling in a petition filed with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs and the Electoral Commission.
Furthermore, a request for an interim injunction was made to the judicial board, asking for the election to be put on hold until a full hearing and decision could be made.
On September 15, 2024, after the hearing, the appeals board voted 7-0 to reverse the disqualification.
The board decided that the names of Guru and his running mate ought to be included on the list of contenders for president.
