“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at the Kantamanto market- Akufo-Addo

Deepest condolences have been sent by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the thousands of traders who lost their wares in the catastrophic fire at Kantamanto in the Greater Accra region.

Numerous businesses and stalls were damaged by the fire, which started early on January 2, 2025, leaving many businessmen in a difficult situation.

President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the serious effects of the fire on the livelihoods of the impacted traders in his final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on January 3.

He gave them his word that the government would provide them the assistance they needed to get over the tragedy and reestablish their enterprises.

“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hardworking traders who have lost their goods and investments.”

He urged everyone in Ghana to unite in solidarity and help the impacted traders through this trying period.

The government has promised to look into the incident’s cause and put policies in place to stop similar incidents from happening again.

The market, which was renowned for its lively ambiance and wide variety of products, was turned to ashes in a few short hours. The situation was chaotic and full of grief. Many of the traders who had put their entire life savings into their companies searched through the burned-out remnants of their stalls in the hopes of finding something valuable.
