Ignite Media condemns violent attack on the studios of Metro TV

The owners of Metro TV, Original TV, and Original 91.9 FM, Ignite Media Group (IMG), have vigorously condemned the armed invasion of their facility on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, by armed police officials, a court bailiff, and an auctioneer.

The event happened during a live broadcast of the Good Morning Ghana show at IMG’s North Ridge offices in Accra at approximately 9:30 am.

IMG said that the auctioneer, George Addo, who was described as the Director of Geld Mart, entered the studio with the bailiff and armed officers and stated that he intended to interrupt the show. After the group of people broke into the studio with force, the live broadcast was quickly cut off.

George Addo had already attempted to carry out a contentious court order, according to IMG. When he appeared to present Good Morning Ghana last year, he allegedly led a group of masked police officers in an effort to take Dr. Randy Abbey’s car. Due to Dr. Abbey’s resistance, that attempt was abandoned.

Staff and security officers at Metro TV were terrified and in a panic after the most recent attack. According to IMG, the event involved the use of excessive force, resulting in a head injury to a private security officer.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), became aware of the situation and personally took action. In order to restore order, the IGP sent a team of officers and ordered the bailiff, auctioneer, and armed police officers to leave IMG’s property.

Dr. Dampare reassured IMG that the issue would be thoroughly investigated and that their offices would be more securely guarded.

IMG condemned the disruption and intimidation brought about by the attack and underlined the importance of following court orders in a lawful and courteous manner.
