I’ll reintroduce Anti-Gay Bill – Sam George

Sam George, the Minister-designate for Communications, has promised to see that the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill is reintroduced in Parliament, highlighting how crucial it is to upholding Ghanaian values and protecting children.

His remarks follow President John Dramani Mahama’s recent assertion that the present Private Member’s Bill would be less effective if it were sponsored by the government.

President Mahama emphasized that such a strategy will promote national consensus and enable wider consultation.

The President also emphasized the necessity of updating school curricula to include cultural and moral lessons that support Ghanaian and African values during a meeting with the Bishops on January 14.
Sam George reaffirmed his commitment to moving the bill forward during his January 30 appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

“My position is, that Bill [Anti-Gay] is a critical part of our national lives, Ghanaian family values, our innocent children must be protected. In this 9th Parliament, that Bill will be reintroduced. Either as a private member Bill or government Bill, I will work with the government, if it’s my bill I will bring it back again.”

Sam George’s comments support the President’s appeal for a more organized approach to the problem and demonstrate his resolve to advocate for laws that represent the moral and cultural values of Ghanaian society.
