It’s no sin if gospel musicians charge for concert, it takes money to get stuff done – Sonnie Badu

Multiple award-winning gospel musician, Dr Sonnie Badu, has put to rest the debate on whether it is right for gospel musicians to charge for concerts.

Sitting down with Aba Guy Guy on E-Chat on Original TV, the ‘Wonder God’ composer had an interesting perspective on the subject that has been greeted with divergent views.

It all started when he expressed his excitement about his upcoming annual concert, but also highlighted the significant financial challenges involved in organizing such events.

This sparked a discussion on the debate about gospel ministers and artists, with the host, Aba, noting that while ministers often do not charge for their services, artistes may turn their work into a transaction.

Dr Sonnie Badu acknowledged that this misunderstanding has created barriers for talented individuals in the gospel industry, stressing that funding is essential for quality productions.

“The lack of understanding has caused some gospel ministers to be bitter, which isn’t the best,” he said.

He therefore okayed gospel singers requesting for payment before gracing concerts.

He reflected on previous challenges with his concert in Ghana, but noted that this year has seen improved support from sponsors, making preparations smoother.

Meanwhile, Dr Badu announced a peace walk scheduled for November 23 in Accra, aimed at promoting harmony ahead of the upcoming elections.

He concluded by thanking his sponsors, Silicon House and Agromonti, for their contributions to the event’s success.
