President John Dramani Mahama has reduced Ghana’s civil service structure, cutting the number of ministries from 30 to 23.
This strategic move intends to reduce administrative costs and increase efficiency. It was formalized with an Executive Instrument issued on January 9, 2025.
The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition are some of the recently formed ministries. A focus on technology, trade, and sustainable development is reflected in notable additions like the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations.
President Mahama’s goal of a more efficient and effective government apparatus that puts an emphasis on effective governance above red tape is emphasized by this realignment.
