John Dramani Mahama has been inaugurated as the sixth president of Ghana’s 4th Republic, marking the start of his second term in office.
The ceremony which took place at the Black Star Square in Accra was attended by dignitaries, politicians and citizens.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo administered the oath, with Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also sworn in as vice-president – the first woman to hold the position.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a decisive victory in December’s elections, winning both the presidential and parliamentary elections by landslide.
John Dramani Mahama has pledged to tackle pressing issues such as youth unemployment, economic recovery and healthcare.
The transfer of power was peaceful, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as one of Africa’s most stable democracies.
