Kojo Oppong Nkrumah chastises Mahama for disparaging the accomplishments of Free SHS

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has expressed outrage over former President John Mahama’s “woefully disheartening” remarks about the candidates’ performance in the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Mr. Mahama recently claimed that connivance, collusion, cheating, and inadequate oversight were the reasons behind the 2023 WASSCE results, which were regarded as some of the finest in nearly a decade.

But Mr. Nkrumah informed reporters at Akim Anyinase that:“It is disheartening to observe how former President Mahama will go to all lengths to belittle the Free SHS programme and its results simply because it didn’t emanate from him”.

Mr. Mahama’s statements, according to the MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, were “shocking and disappointing.”

“While he may not like the entire SHS programme, he shouldn’t try so hard to denigrate the beneficiaries. Yes, the programme may have some challenges, but to say that even the exceptional success of the students is fake is just amazing,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah noted.

Mr. Mahama has consistently questioned the Free SHS policy and has made multiple promises to reform it if he were to retake office.
