Mr. Kwasi Asante has been reassigned as the interim Director of passports by Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. He is going to start working on Monday, August 19, 2024.
“The honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has decided that you should be re-assigned to the Passport Office as the Director of Passports with effect from Monday, 19th August, 2024,” Mr Asante’s reassignment letter seen by Metro News.
“You are, therefore, requested to take steps to undergo the required handing over process to cnable you assume duty,” the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration’s letter further directed.
He will be in charge of managing the entire passport issuance procedure and supervising the processing and issuing of passports to qualified Ghanaian citizens in his capacity as the substantive director of passports in Ghana.
In addition, he will be responsible for creating and implementing passport issue policies and procedures, making sure all passport applications fulfill the necessary requirements, and confirming the legitimacy of papers.
Mr. Kwasi Asante will also have the significant responsibility of collaborating with other government departments, including immigration and national security, to guarantee efficient passport administration and adherence to global passport guidelines and standards.
Mr. Kwasi Asante had been the Chargė D’affaires at Ghana’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from May 2024, before taking on his new role. He held the position of Deputy Ambassador/DPR at the same Embassy from June 2021 to August 2024.
Before his posting to Addis Ababa, Kwasi Asante worked at the Passport Office as the director of operations from April 2020 to June 2021. He has also served at the ECOWAS Commission Executive Assistant from June 2018 to April 2020.
His diplomatic career also brought him to function as Minister-Counsellor/HOC at the Ghanaian Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, from September 2016 to June 2018. From September 2013 till September 2016, Mr. Asante served as Deputy Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Kwasi Asante was employed as an assistant director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009 and as an assistant economic officer at the Ministry of Economic Planning & Regional Cooperation from 2001 to 2006 before taking up the position of Counsellor/HOC at the Ghanaian Embassy in Seoul, Korea, from 2009 to 2013.
