Let Mahama decide IGP Dampare’s fate – Dep. Interior Minister nominee tells Ghanaians

Deputy Minister-designate for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has cautioned against speculation surrounding the fate of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

Speaking during his vetting in Parliament on Monday, February 24, Mr Terlabi urged the public to leave the decision regarding the IGP’s future to President Mahama.

The call comes amidst public discussions and demands by some individuals and groups for Dr Dampare’s removal since the new government took office.

Mr Terlabi emphasized that such decisions should be left to the President, adding that he wished he had the authority to make such decisions himself.

The calls for Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s resignation have been linked to concerns surrounding the December 7, 2024, elections.

Dr. Dampare has been at the center of controversy before. In September 2023, a leaked audio tape revealed an alleged plot by three top police officers to remove him from office.

Dr. Dampare was subsequently summoned to appear before a parliamentary committee investigating the matter.
